MINUTES OF THE REGULAR STATED
MEETING OF THE
LAKESITE CITY COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 20, 2007
Mayor Mullin called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Vice Mayor Wilkerson gave the Invocation. Commissioner Allis led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll was called with Mayor Mullin, Vice Mayor Wilkerson, Commissioner Allis, Commissioner McPherson, City Manager Edwards and City Attorney Elliott present. Commissioner Burkett was absent. Commissioner McPherson made a motion to accept the minutes of the January 16, 2007 Agenda Meeting. Vice Mayor Wilkerson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Commissioner Allis made a motion to approve the January 16, 2007 Regular Meeting minutes. Commissioner McPherson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried.
Officer Rice gave the Commissioners the January Sheriff’s Department report. He said he felt the parking problem on Glengerrie Drive had been resolved. Stickers were placed on cars which had parked during prohibited hours. Mr. Beavers said the Sheriff’s Department was doing a good job. Vice Mayor Wilkerson agreed and said the protection was good and response time was prompt.
Assistant Chief Shadwick gave the Dallas Bay Fire Department report for January (three calls).
Mr. Beavers reported a pot hole at Lyons Lane and Hixson Pike. Curt Blair will check it.
Vern Thomas said realtors selling homes and also businesses in Lakesite are often using Soddy Daisy or Hixson in their advertizing, which does not adequately locate homes or businesses. He said maps have Lakesite on them which shows the location of our city. Suzanne Cobb, wife of Representative Cobb, was asked about getting Hixson to allow 37343 for Lakesite, much as we now do with Soddy Daisy. She said we could ask.
David DiStefano, G. R. Rush and Co., gave the audit report for the year ending June 30, 2006. He noted a finding was eliminated from the previous report concerning weakness in internal control because of the limited number of employees. Commissioner McPherson now is involved in checking the finances monthly.
Commissioner Allis, Parks & Recreation, said he would have a report on Little Chickey next month.
Curt Blair said a final review of terms and specs with Qore Property Sciences concerning road maintenance is nearly complete.
Commissioner McPherson, Budget & Finance, said the budget is where it should be, or even better than expected, at this point.
Vice Mayor Wilkerson, Public Safety, said there was a change of ownership at the marina and there will be increased patrol of the area by the Sheriff’s Department.
Ordinance 172, Ethics Policy, is required by the State for all municipalities to be in place by July 1, 2007. The State endorsed the MTAS model policy which we have used in preparing our ordinance. Attorney Elliott will be the Ethics Officer. He said the policy will better define personal conflicts of interest. Vice Mayor Wilkerson made a motion to approve Ordinance 172. Commissioner Allis seconded the motion. Roll call vote: All Commissioners voted aye and Ordinance 172 passed on first reading.
Commissioner McPherson made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Allis seconded the motion. Mayor Mullin adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
