MINUTES OF THE REGULAR STATED
MEETING OF THELAKESITE CITY COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 16, 2010
Mayor Mullin called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Commissioner Howell gave the Invocation. Commissioner McPherson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll was called with Mayor Mullin, Commissioner Burkett, Commissioner Howell, Commissioner McPherson, and City Attorney Elliott present. Vice Mayor Wilkerson and City Manager Edwards were absent. Commissioner McPherson made a motion to accept the minutes of the Agenda Workshop Meeting and the Regular Meeting, both held on January 19, 2010. Commissioner Burkett seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried.
Marty Cabe, President of the North Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce, invited the Commissioners to attend their next meeting on February 18, 2010. Their meetings will be held on the third Thursdays of each month at noon at the Grace Calvary Chapel. He said their purpose is to support business and the growth of new businesses.
Janice Atkinson, Hamilton County Sheriffs Department, reported the following for January 2010: 7 burglar alarms, 6 traffic crashes, 1 theft, 1 burglary, 9 watches, 4 traffic citations, 18 traffic warnings and 4 traffic arrests.
Lt. Jack Brellenthin, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, reported 33 calls to the City in January as follows: 3 fires, 25 rescue and EMS, 1 hazardous condition, 1 service call and 3 false alarms/calls. Commissioner Burkett, Public Works reported that our paving contact had expired and invitations to bid were responded to by three companies. Robert Smith, Inc. was the previous contractor used by the City and his bid was the lowest after a review of the three bids.
Commissioner Burkett made a motion to award the contract to Robert Smith, Inc. and to authorize the City Manager to enter into a paving contract with them. Commissioner McPherson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Commissioner McPherson, Budget and Finance, said the City is still in good financial shape.
Commissioner Howell, Parks and Recreation, asked if the City was going to donate to the pool as they have done in previous years. The City should receive a letter from the Lakesite Recreation Club asking for the donation and listing what the money will be used for.
Mayor Mullin said Larry Jenno, Codes Officer, was heading up the April Clean Up Campaign and a newsletter and new phone directory will be sent to residents in March.
Commissioner Burkett made a motion to pass Ordinance 193, the caption of which was read as follows: An ordinance of the City of Lakesite, Tennessee, granting a franchise to the Electric Power Board of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee, to construct, operate and maintain a cable system in the City of Lakesite, Tennessee, for the purpose of providing cable service; setting forth conditions accompanying the grant of the franchise; providing for regulation and use of the system, and the public rights-of-way in conjunction with the City’s right-of-way ordinance, if any; and prescribing penalties for the violations of the provisions herein. There were no further comments and Commissioner McPherson seconded the motion. During roll call vote all Commissioners voted aye and Ordinance 193 passed on first reading.
Commissioner Howell made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner McPherson seconded the motion. Mayor Mullin adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
