MINUTES OF THE REGULAR STATED
MEETING OF THE
LAKESITE CITY COMMISSION
JUNE 20, 2006
Mayor Mullin called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Vice Mayor Wilkerson gave the
Invocation. Roll was called with Mayor Mullin, Vice Mayor Wilkerson, Commissioner Allis, Commissioner Burkett, Commissioner McPherson, City Manager Edwards and City Attorney Elliott present. Vice Mayor Wilkerson made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 16, 2006 agenda meeting. Commissioner McPherson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Vice Mayor Wilkerson made a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held on May 16, 2006. Commissioner Allis seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried.
Officer Ron Rice gave the Commissioners the Sheriff's Department report for May. Chief Rosamond, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, gave a report on calls made to Lakesite.
Jeff Eblen asked about cars parking in the road on Glengerrie. The city code will be checked to see if it is legal to park on the streets overnight. He said it was a safety concern in some areas where there are hills.
Mr. Beavers said the ditches on Daisy Dallas need to be cleaned out.
Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Jones asked if any more consideration was done on their property on Daisy Dallas. They would like part of the property to be re-zoned to R1. The Regional Planning Agency is doing a Land Use Plan to see if zoning changes may come about. A public meeting will be held in August. The City Manager said that in a few weeks we will be working on a project to attract businesses to the city.
Leroy Beasley, Chimney Hills Homeowners, said that the response time by emergency and fire services to a lightning strike in Chimney Hills was very good. He also reported a monument mailbox was hit by a car on Chimney Hills Drive.
City Manager Edwards announced a change in garbage service, Waste Connection, beginning July 1, 2006. He said two bids for the service were received and Waste Connection was the lowest bid.
Committee Reports: Commissioner Allis, Parks & Recreation, said he was gathering data on future Little Chickey improvements. Vice Mayor Wilkerson, Public Safety, said there seems to be fewer incidents of go cart, golf carts, etc. in the streets.
A public hearing was held for Ordinance 163, making and fixing the annual appropriation of the several departments of the city for the fiscal year July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007 and adopting the city budget by reference. Vice Mayor Wilkerson made a motion to pass Ordinance 163. Commissioner Burkett seconded the motion. Roll call vote: All Commissioners voted aye and Ordinance 163 passed on second and final reading.
A public hearing was held for Ordinance 164, General Revenue Ordinance, for the fiscal year 2006-2007 setting the tax rate at $0.290 per $100 of taxable property. Commissioner McPherson made a motion to pass Ordinance 164. Commissioner Allis seconded the motion. Roll call vote: All Commissioners voted aye and Ordinance 163 passed on second and final reading.
Vice Mayor Wilkerson made a motion to accept the bid of Waste Connection of Tennessee and to enter into a contract with them to start July 1, 2006. Commissioner Burkett seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted "aye" and motion carried.
Commissioner Allis moved to adjourn. Mayor Mullin adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
