The City of Lakesite is Looking to Appoint 3 Community Members to Board of Zoning Appeals

The City of Lakesite is looking to appoint 3 community members to the Lakesite Board of Zoning Appeals. The 3-member Board will be responsible for the following tasks:

The board of zoning appeals shall be vested with all of the powers granted to a board of appeals pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated, § 13-7-207.
A. Administrative Review: To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged by the appellant that there is error in any order, requirement, permit, decision, determination or refusal made by the zoning official or other administrative official in the carrying out of enforcement of any provision of this ordinance.
B. Special Exceptions: To hear and decide applications for special exceptions as specified in this ordinance, hear requests for interpretation of the zoning map, and for decision on any special questions upon which the Municipal Planning Commission is authorized to pass.
C. Variances: To hear and decide applications.

Traditionally, we don't have a lot of such cases as the law provides for a very narrow definition of what qualifies for a variance or appeal. Because of that, the Board will likely not meet regularly. Meetings will be scheduled as needed.

A background in building construction, architecture, civil engineering or similar fields is preferable but not required. Members will receive annual training relating to their authority and tasks while serving on the Board. For each case, city staff will prepare a written analysis of the request to provide necessary and relevant information for consideration in the Board's deliberations and decisions.

Applications are due at midnight on Sunday, April 6, 2024.
