MINUTES OF THE REGULAR STATED MEETING OF THE LAKESITE CITY COMMISSION JULY 19, 2011Mayor Wilkerson called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Commissioner Howell gave the Invocation. Vice Mayor McPherson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll was called with Mayor Wilkerson, Vice Mayor McPherson, Commissioner Boddy, Commissioner Howell, City Manager Edwards and City Attorney Elliott present. Commissioner Burkett was absent. Vice Mayor McPherson made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting and the Agenda Workshop Meeting, both held on June 21, 2011. Commissioner Howell seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Janice Atkinson, Hamilton County Sheriffs Department, gave the report for June 2011 as follows: traffic citations 15, traffic warnings 32, burglar alarms 6, traffic crash 1, park & walk 0, and watch list 3, with 193 calls for service. Ms. Atkinson said neighborhood watch is important as an assist to the Sheriffs Department. Assistant Chief Brellenthin, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, gave the June 2011 report for Lakesite: vehicle fires 2, trash fires 3, rescue/EMS 18, vehicle extrication 1, watercraft rescue 1, and alarm malfunctions 3, for a total of 28 calls. Assistant Chief Brellenthin said their audit report was completed and he would give us a copy. He said a new first responder truck has been ordered. Mayor Wilkerson thanked the Fire Department for being present during the July 4th fireworks display. Joan Kirby asked about the status on the pond. City Manager Edwards said we were going to get bids for adding an upper dam to keep the entire pond filled. The estimate is $27,700 for engineering and all other work needed. City Manager Edwards said we had an estimate of $31,000 to resurface the tennis court with an 8-10 year warranty and money is available for this and the pond project. Commissioner Howell made a motion to authorize the City Manager to proceed with the bidding process for the work to be done on the pond. Commissioner Boddy seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Commissioner Howell made a motion to authorize the City Manager to proceed with getting bids for the tennis court resurfacing. Vice Mayor McPherson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Mayor Wilkerson, Public Safety, said off duty officers were hired to patrol for three nights during the July 4th weekend. This can be done periodically to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens. Commissioner Boddy, Budget & Finance, said at the fiscal year end, the budget was over in revenues and under in expenditures. Commissioner Howell, Parks & Recreation, thanked the Commissioners and staff for making the July 4th picnic and fireworks display a big success. He said the new updated website is done and should be ready as soon as photographs of local sites are added. Vice Mayor McPherson made a motion to pass Ordinance 204, the caption of which was read as follows: An ordinance to amend the Lakesite Zoning Ordinance, as referenced in the Lakesite Municipal Code Title 14, Chapter 2, of the City of Lakesite to include car lots as a permitted use in the C-1 Commercial Zone and to incorporate a definition therein. This ordinance is to include car lots with approval by the Commissioners. Commissioner Boddy seconded the motion. During roll call vote all Commissioners voted aye and Ordinance 204 passed on first reading. Commissioner Howell made a motion to adjourn. Mayor Wilkerson adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m. |
