MINUTES OF THE REGULAR STATED MEETING OF THE LAKESITE CITY COMMISSION JANUARY 18, 2011Mayor Wilkerson called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Commissioner Howell gave the Invocation. Vice Mayor McPherson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll was called with Mayor Wilkerson, Vice Mayor McPherson, Commissioner Boddy, Commissioner Burkett, Commissioner Howell, City Manager Edwards and City Attorney Elliott present. No meeting was held in December 2010. Commissioner Burkett made a motion to accept the minutes of the Regular Meeting and the Agenda Workshop Meeting, both held on November 16, 2010. Vice Mayor McPherson seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Janice Atkinson, Hamilton County Sheriffs Department, gave the report for December 2010 as follows: traffic citations-27, traffic warnings-58, burglar alarms-8, thefts-2, watch list-1, park & walk-1 and traffic crashes-4 with a total of 270 calls for service. Ms. Atkinson reminded residents to not leave valuables in cars, locked or unlocked. Lt. Jack Brellenthin, Dallas Bay Fire Department, congratulated the newly elected officials and said that he hopes to continue to work with Lakesite. He will try to bring a newly purchased truck to the next meeting for the citizens to see. He reported for December 2010 the following: building fire-1, rescue/EMS-24, vehicle accident with injuries-3, person in distress-1, smoke or odor removal-1 and alarm malfunction-1 for a total of 31 calls. He and Mayor Wilkerson explained that the number of EMS calls had grown since December 2009 because the Fire Department then started responding to all calls (even sickness, low falls, etc.) not just more serious calls. Also there is a pattern of older people who often require calls. City Manager Edwards reported that FEMA has approved Lakesite into the Flood Insurance Program now making flood insurance available to residents wishing to purchase it. Mayor Wilkerson thanked Marty Beach, Curt Blair, John Scott and David Tate for their work in clearing the roads during the recent snow storm. George Patten introduced himself as a candidate for County Commissioner, District 3, of which Lakesite is a part. Leah Crisp, Water Quality Program, was present to answer questions concerning a Notice of Intent which must be signed by mayors of municipalities. Vice Mayor McPherson explained a $9 fee to residents goes to the Water Quality Program. Permits are for five years and mainly affects new construction greater that one acre to control run off. Vice Mayor McPherson made a motion to allow Mayor Wilkerson to sign the Notice of Intent. Commissioner Howell seconded the motion. All Commissioners voted aye and motion carried. Mayor Wilkerson said a program, Hardest Hit, is available to homes facing foreclosure due to the economy, loss of job, etc. Application can be made by those eligible. Commissioner Burkett made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Howell seconded the motion. Mayor Wilkerson adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m. |
